For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for life;
Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5)
New Horizon usually implies or suggests broadening or increasing one’s understanding, knowledge, or skills. It can also signify transformation, hope, new beginnings, a fresh start or new direction and that can be in any area of life: career, family, relationships, finances, or ministry.
Seeking or anticipating a new horizon, a new beginning, a change, often comes about when facing new opportunities, challenges or overcoming past difficulties. Depending on the circumstances, we can find ourselves excited, happy, anxious or fearful. In some cases, you can experience all of these emotions throughout the day, usually referred to as mixed emotions. When someone says they have mixed emotions, they are usually experiencing a wide range of emotions about a situation. That means that they are having ups and downs, highs and lows, feeling both good and bad.
Regardless of how we get there, we should look forward to a New Horizon. Psalm 30:5 says that His favor is for life. The Lord’s favor is His kindness, acceptance, goodwill, and pleasure towards you. For life, means His favor is living, active, reviving, meaning it will sustain you, preserve you, and keep you.
Even in your weeping, throughout the night, crying with tears non-stop, you will have joy in the morning. According to the text, joy comes after a night of sorrow (distress). That joy will be in the form of happiness, rejoicing, praise: victory. If you’ve ever cried all night long, you know what it means to have joy in the morning. You see the sun shining, you can hear the birds chirping, and God has a way of letting you know that everything is going to be all right. It’s a new horizon.
When something is new, it’s never seen before, and in some cases, it’s never been done or even used. It’s New. A horizon is the line at which the earth and sky appear to meet. It divides the world into two parts or hemispheres; the upper hemisphere which is visible, and the lower which is hidden or invisible. We call it the “skyline”. Since it’s a new horizon, what you see is about to change or shift, it might even tilt.
Isaiah 43:19, the Lord says:
Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.
Despite their past transgressions, God assures the children of Israel of His presence, protection, and forgiveness, promising to restore and do a new thing for them. God can do the same for you (protect, forgive, restore, and do a new thing).
How is God going to do it? According to the passage:
- It’s going to spring forth (sprout, growth, come forth)
- Shall you not know it? You will be able to discern it, perceive it. You’re going to know it’s God because He’s going to make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
- In the wilderness, He’s going to carve out a path for you in places that are obscure (unclear), desolate, difficult to navigate, where you don’t see a path or a way out. What was barren and overcast will open up and become clear so that you can see where to go and how to get there…that’s vision.
- In the desert, rivers or streams are going to appear in uninhabitable, dead and dry places where there is nothing. These rivers or streams represent life and vitality. Rivers sustain life and gain momentum as they move and flow through deserted places spilling into other large bodies of water. They provide nourishment to the earth and living creatures, and humanity…that’s provision.
In other words, things that look dead are going to come alive. You’re going to know it’s God because you could not do it, you could not fix it, and you could finish it without God (John 15:5). He’s going to make a way out of no way for you! Open doors, answers, solutions, and help are headed your way.
God is going to do a new thing in your life. Something you’ve never seen or experienced. It’s going to spring forth. It’s going to sprout and shoot up. Pay attention so that you can discern it and benefit from it.
