Spiritual growth is a journey that involves deepening your devotion and strengthening the connection to God, yourself, and others. We often discuss the importance of having a relationship with God.
Having a relationship with God requires you to communicate with Him through prayer and worship. As in any relationship, communication is important. Open communication and transparency allow you to know a person on an intimate level. You learn their likes and dislikes. This comes from having a close relationship. When you spend more time together, your love grows deeper, and you enjoy being in each other’s presence. This is the same benefit of spending time in the presence of God, our Father in heaven. God has so many blessings for you and they are in the Bible. Spending time reading the scriptures and praying will provide you with strength, peace, purpose and direction.
Praise and worship are also important because God inhabits the praises of His people. The more you spend time studying, praying, and worshipping, you will become more sensitive to the spirit of God, Holy Spirit. Your discernment will also be sharpened, and you will learn about God’s glory and His presence. You will also discover the plans and blessings He has for you. Your spiritual eyes will be open, and you will be able to communicate with the Lord on a deeper level; you will be able to hear from God in a new way.
If you had to rate your spiritual growth or maturity on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate yourself? Consider the following before you assess yourself:
- Bible study
- Understanding scripture
- Prayer life
- Fasting
- Worship
- Giving
- Fruit of the Spirit
Signs of spiritual growth is in the word of God – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. —Galatians 5:22–23
This is not a comprehensive list of criteria, but key points to consider. The decisions we make are also an indication of our spiritual growth and maturity level. Do not condemn yourself – we serve such a patient and merciful God. Write your prayer for Spiritual Growth and continue seeking God with all your heart.
Takeaway: Always seek to please God instead of yourself or others. If you have a desire to deepen your spiritual walk, God will lead you in the right direction and manifest Himself to you. Read Proverbs 3:5-7.
